The Courageous magazine was created to commemorate the studio’s films and celebrate their branded work in a tangible way that offers an intimate and enriching storytelling experience. The aim was to produce a coffee table piece featuring an oversized format, premium paper, and beautiful full-bleed image spreads — a piece that not only sets itself apart and elevates the brand but also leaves readers better informed than when they first picked it up.

The Courageous magazine contains content marketing news, proprietary research (editorial feature stories front CNN.com), photo essays, field reports from branded content shoots and editorial articles. It’s a nice way to celebrate the branded work, as well as what CNN Digital does best.
An oversize vertical format, 100 pages with two types of paper silk and uncoated for a luxurious experience.
The visual system is based on Courageous branding guidelines. The masthead is a Courageous logotype set in gold foil, and the boat mast icon is a graphic element that wraps around the front and back cover set in a clear foil stamp. Typography features Conduit, a Courageous brand typeface paired with Parkinson Electra Pro, a serif, and Seravek. This san serif typeface varies in weight to create an identity for each magazine section. The grid system is on a 16 points baseline grid on 4, 6, 8, and 12 columns.
